Hong Kong Chen Style Tai Chi Academy

Hong Kong Chen Style Taichi Academy was founded by Mr. Simon Leung (Leung Chi Wai), the 13th generation descendant of Chen Style Taichi, in 23 August 2010. With the motto “傳承國粹,修煉身心”(Pass along this Chinese traditional quintessence; Building up our mind and body), the academy aims to efficiently and effectively promote Chen Style Tai Chi in Hong Kong.  The Academy is led by Master Zhang Dongwu (Wushu 7th Dan, state senior coach, the 12th generation descendant of Chen Style Taichi) as the President and the Technical Director, Master Xu Qinlan (Wushu 7th Dan, Shaolin Temple 31st generation disciple) as Vice President and Mr. Simon Leung Chi Wai (the 12th generation descendant of Chen Style Taichi) as the Head Coach.

President and Technical Director: Master Zhang Dongwu

Zhang Dongwu, born in the original place of Tai Chi— Chen village in 1970, Wushu 7th Dan (a system of Wushu evaluation), state senior coach, one of “Ten Outstanding Tai Chi Elites”, one of direct line prominent apprentices of Grandmaster Chen Zhenglei, skillful in Tai Chi Kungfu and has original view on training and actual combat technique.  Master Zhang is now President of Zhengzhou Dongwu Taiji Training Institute, the Chief Director of Zhang Dongwu Taiji College in France, the Special Head Coach of the Chen Chen Taijiquan Center, the Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong Chen Style Taijiquan General Assembly, the Deputy Secretary General of Henan Chenshi Taijiquan Association and the Director of the Technical Training Department, Vice President of Chen Style Taijiquan Association of Jiaozuo City.

Vice President: Master Xu Qinlan

Xu Qinlan, born in Shandong Yucheng in 1971, Wushu 7th Dan, Shaolin Temple 31st generation disciple.  She is currently the Executive Vice President of Henan Dongwu Taijiquan Training Institute, the general manager of Henan Dongwu Taiji Culture Communication, the director of Henan Shaolin Boxing Research Association, the executive director of Henan Chenshi Taijiquan Association, and the honorary dean of Zhang Dongwu Taiji College in France.  At the age of 6, Xu Qinlan started practising Shaolin kungfu from her father(素法大師).  Later, she learned from Shaolin Temple 30th generation abbot(素喜法師).  In 1988, during her postgraduate study in the martial arts institute of Henan University, Master Xu started to learn Chen Style taichi from Master Zhang Dongwu.  After more than 30 years of martial art practicing, she becomes more and more skillful and her forms are neat and beautiful.  Master Xu is also magnificent at nine-section whip, taichi fan, taichi sword and wudang sword.

Vice President: Master Xu Qinlan

Simon Leung (Leung Chi Wai), born in Hong Kong in 1975, professional information system auditor(CISA,CRISC, CISM, ISO 27001 Lead Auditor), Wushu 5th Dan, 13th generation successor of Chen Style Tai Chi, one of the elite disciple of Master Zhang Dongwu.

Coaching Team

Kan Hon Kong

Retired civil engineer, passionate about sports, keen on rowing and dragon boat racing. Also as a Tai Chi lover, he started learning Yang style and Wu style taichi.  In 2006, Kan started learning Chen Style taichi from Simon Leung.  He has also enhanced his taichi skill with Masters Zhang Dongwu, Xu Qinlan and Fu Nengbin.  Participated in many Hong Kong taichi tournaments and achieved excellent results:

  • 2009 Hong Kong Internal Kung Fu Championship – Second Runner-up in Chen Style Taijiquan Group D
  • 2013 Hong Kong Internal Kung Fu Open Championship – First Prize in of Taiji and Taiji sword (Elderly Group)
  • 2015 Hong Kong Internal Kung Fu Open Championship – First Prize in of Taiji and Taiji sword (Elderly Group)

Siu Yeung Fai

Siu loves martial arts and has been practising Yang style Taijiquan. Since 2006, he started learning Chen Style taichi from Simon Leung.  He also studied with Zhang Dongwu, a famous teacher of Chen Taijiquan. He has also enhanced his taichi skill with Masters Zhang Dongwu and participated in many Hong Kong taichi tournaments:

  • 2010 Hong Kong Internal Kung Fu Championship – Runner-up in Chen Style Taijiquan
  • 2010 Traditional Wushu Open Third – Second Runner-up in Chen Style Taijiquan

Chan Kwok Wai

Chan is a primary school teacher. He has been practising martial arts since childhood.  He has learned Wing Chun, Hung Kuen, Yang Style Taiji, Praying Mantis, especially good at Choi Lee Fat.  In 2013, he started learning Chen Style taichi from Simon Leung.  His goal is to combine his internal and external kungfu, and form his unique martial art:
